Jean Murray is a Dublin North sider who moved to the lush fields of Ratoath thirteen years ago with the rest of ‘The Celtic Tiger’ movers! She is a new and passionate author who just began her writing career three years ago at age 45. She has had her first book, ‘My Beautiful Flower’ published by Austin Macauley ltd in London and released on amazon since March 2015.
A wife to Anthony and Mother to Anthony Jr. 26, Sarah 20 and Yasmin 11 and soon to be daughter in law Sally O’Neil, she somehow finds the time to write about her ‘Life in GeneraL’ on Blogger as skyestorm.blogspot.com, WordPress.com and Networked Blogs and continue to write other great books in the making!
Throughout Jean’s years as a parent, she searched many book shelves for bright colorful books to encourage her children to read. She felt she could add to that wonderful shelf of children’s books by writing her own story called, ‘Madhead the Crazy Horse!’ Produced by Tom Haynes at Austin Macauley Publishers.
This beautifully illustrated story is about a clumsy cob pony who, who lives at Broadmeadows Stables. He is not very smart and he has very bad manners so he is not too popular in his yard. Nobody can see that he is really a lovable and kind hearted pony under his big awkward looking head, except for his loving pal Betsy who tries to keep him out of trouble.
The character of ‘Madhead’ was created by Jean’s husband Anthony who tells many funny stories to their youngest daughter Yasmin each night at bedtime. The ruder the story is, the more Yasmin would laugh. The illustrations were drawn by her daughter Sarah who has always had an artistic gift but has been improved and guided by her many loving teachers through school and college, among them, Miss Cummins from her early school years and Helen Mortimer from Ratoath College secondary school.
Following both her daughters love of horses, Jean spends most of her time supporting them over in Broadmeadows Stables, mucking out, grooming and preparing for show jumping competitions. So it was an obvious place to have Madhead’s home! She says, “Having been around the many children who work so hard at show jumping and events, has given me a great respect for these boys and girls. It takes dedication, commitment and strength to ride horses. The kids in Broadmeadows are brought to a professional level of show jumping by Brian Duff, owner of Broadmeadows and their talented riding instructor Keith. The girls encourage each other in their ambition to be successful show jumpers! I know when I leave Yasmin there, she is in a safe and happy environment. Indeed all the ‘Horse Mams’ watch out for all the kids at any given time.”
‘Madhead the Crazy Horse’ is a Pilot book and I am also launching an Art competition on the day for the illustrations for the second book in the series of Madhead, called ‘Madhead and The Railer!’
I look forward to receiving lots of entrants!!
Yours sincerely

Jean Murray
